According to Frank Wanderer, a scholar and professor of psychology, they exist 3 evolutionary stages of consciousness.

In his opinion we can speak of a real process of evolution of consciousness with three levels of development in total.

Each level of development of consciousness has very specific characteristics and as many specific functions. The stages of development of consciousness are divided into: ordinary consciousness, phase of awakening and complete freedom, or liberation, if we go hand in hand with Eastern thought.

Let's find out how consciousness evolves through a process divided into the following three stages of development.

Ordinary stage of consciousness

At the lowest level of the evolution of consciousness we are at one ordinary stage in which consciousness is very much tied to the past, it is rooted in it and feeds on it. The present moment is decidedly less important than in the past and is considered only a step towards the future that could perhaps represent a kind of liberation, or at least a hope for change. Living in the here and now is quite difficult, there are obstacles to overcome. At this stage we let others define ourselves because we still find ourselves searching for what we really are and we still don't know what would truly set us free.

Awakening phase

We know that our consciousness has started to awaken when we realize that we are no longer hostages of our thoughts and emotions. We learn to no longer rely on what others think of us and begin to gain self-control and autonomy. We gradually abandon our fear of rejection and failure to meet social expectations. All our actions are motivated by the desire to affirm who we truly are.

Complete liberation

The level of absolute freedom is the highest in the development of consciousness. In this case the main feature is the total acceptance of this and the celebration of the here and now. People who reach this level no longer suffer from the pain they experienced in the past and don't worry much about the future as they can focus on living in the present. They understand that true freedom is to accept life as it is, without judgment or analysis, but simply with great gratitude.
