The ranking of the most liveable cities was again compiled for 2013 thanks to the survey Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Global Livability Survey. Melbourne, in Australia, is reconfirmed for the third time as a winning city. The main ranking has remained almost unchanged compared to 2012.

    Australia e New Zealand appear as the countries of the world where the quality of life turns out better. In fact, they occupy five positions in the ranking. Canada also stands out and is in the Top 10 with three cities. As for Europe, we find Vienna, in Austria, al second e Helsinki, in Finland, ateighth place. The Austrian city thus confirms its primacy as a European city with the best quality of life like evidenced by Mercer's research.

    To win the most important positions in the ranking are above all medium-sized cities, located in affluent countries with a low population density. Within the survey it was possible to express one's assessment of 140 cities and regarding five categories: stability, health service, culture, environment, education and infrastructure.

    The total points awarded for each category allowed each city to reach a maximum score of 100. The locations that won the top 10 positions therefore achieved very high results. The changes relative to the positioning in the ranking of the major cities concerned, compared to 2012, above all the economic crisis, internal protests or conflicts. Among the cities that have unfortunately lost many positions are Madrid, Tripoli and Damascus.
