Covid parental leave at 50% is causing a lot of criticism from parents of children in quarantine classes

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Covid parental leave, which provides for half pay to 50%, is causing a lot of criticism from parents of children in quarantine or positive classes

Officially the schools, of all levels and levels, are open - but this is far from a normal situation. Contagions in classrooms are commonplace among pupils as well as among teachers and school staff, and this forces entire classes to distance learning methods, to the delight of working parents.

It is the youngest children, those under the age of 5 who attend nursery schools and kindergartens, who pay the heaviest price of this health emergency situation: not being vaccinated against Covid-19 and not wearing a mask, they are more exposed to the risk of contagion, therefore for them the quarantine of the whole class is triggered with a single case of positivity to Covid (unlike other school groups, in which quarantine measures are triggered by two or three positives); finally, for them there is no distance learning, but a simple period of removal from school which lasts ten days (with return to class with a negative swab performed on the tenth day from the contact with the positive).

Younger children are also those most in need of parental care and attention, who cannot leave them alone at home to go to work nor can they hope to work in smart working mode with a screaming baby at home. Here then is that the question bounces on the class chats and on the Facebook groups of working mothers and fathers: what rights do parents who take time off work to care for their quarantined children?

Unfortunately, as stated on the website of the National Institute of Social Security, parents can no longer apply for sick leave in the event of a positive or quarantined child, but only a parental leave specific: this means that, if before the sick leave guaranteed the receipt of the salary at 100%, the leave stops at 50%. A nice economic blow that weighs on the family budget, especially because the quarantines in the classes follow one another very frequently, and the children cannot be entrusted to others except their parents as they are obliged to quarantine.

How to read it on the INPS website - "SARS CoV-2 parental leave" can be taken by employed parents, by workers registered exclusively in the separate management or by self-employed workers registered with INPS, for the care of cohabiting children under the age of 14 suffering from SARS CoV -2, in contact quarantine or with didactic or educational activity in suspended presence. The leave can also be taken by foster or co-worker parents. […] For periods of abstention taken, an allowance equal to 50% of the salary or income is recognized according to the job category of the parent requesting the leave and the periods are covered by notional contributions.

The application to obtain the economic benefits of the leave must be submitted electronically, through the INPS website, if you are in possession of SPID (Public Digital Identity System) credentials of at least level II, of the electronic identity card (CIE ) or the National Service Card (CNS). Alternatively, you can contact the toll-free number 803.164 or the services offered by the patronage institutes.
