The world of fashion and clothing seems to be starting to take important steps in regards to respect for the environment, even from the point of view of large companies. A new example has come in recent days from Levi's, well-known clothing brand for manufacturing fabric in denim e jeans.

Levi's has since 2008 decided to to forbid the use of cotton from Uzbekistan in each of its production lines, thus avoiding to draw for its raw materials from the most exploited area of the world for the production of cotton, which requires, in the conventional non-organic way, which is the most widespread, a extensive use of pesticides. In Uzbekistan the use of polluting chemicals for the cultivation of cotton is combined with low wages for workers and child exploitation.

It is also due to the problems related to the production of cotton worldwide that the company has decided to resort to one alternative starting material for the production of their jeans. It is about recycled plastic, from which it is possible to obtain a fisynthetic bra suitable for use in the clothing sector. This is how the line was born Waste Less di Levi’s, which includes jeans and denim jackets, whose composition is made up of at least 20% recycled material.

The new material used does not compromise the softness of the fabrics or the wearability of the clothes and helps to convey a positive message of attention to the environment and respect for the ecosystem. Recovering plastic to make fabrics means reducing their accumulation in landfills or incinerators, when they cannot be recycled in any other way.

From bottle recycling and plastic trays one was obtained polyester fiber. It is combined with cotton fibers to obtain a yarn suitable for use in making garments. Among the models affected by the novelty, which will arrive in stores starting since January 2013, there are the men's jeans of the Levi's 511 Skinny model and the women's jeans called Levi's Boyfriend Skinny. The Trucker Jacket model will also be part of the new line.

The same company is already involved in one promotional campaign aimed at raising consumer awareness against waste related to the world of clothing. In fact, not everyone has the sensitivity to reuse the material coming from old jeans that have not been worn for years to make clothes or accessories, and not everyone is used to giving or donating their own to charity. old clothes, which come like this carelessly thrown in the trash.

So for some of you it might be useful to know that for every old pair of jeans returned to the clothing stores included among the Levi's authorized retailers, a discount coupon of 25 euro for the purchase of a new pair of jeans of this brand. There campaign for the scrapping of jeans started on October 22nd and will close on November 22nd.
