In these days the Municipality of Sava has in fact mounted one of the trees thirty bat-boxes, distributed within the municipal areas such as Parco Sassi, Villa Europa and Piazza Risorgimento.

“Real little houses that will welcome bats: nocturnal birds greedy for mosquitoes that will help us fight the annoying summer problem of mosquitoes with a simple natural intervention”, writes Deputy Mayor Mirko Piccolo.

Similarly, 19 bat-boxes have already been installed in recent months between Maruggio and Campomarino, always in the Taranto area.

Splendid initiatives, in short, if you consider that you will no longer have to use insecticides or platelets or carry out disinfestations, because these small mammals take care of killing all the mosquitoes in a short time. In fact, every bat can eat 2 thousand insects a night resulting a perfect and completely natural ally in the fight against mosquitoes.

The effects of the bat-boxes, however, will only begin to be seen in a little while, because the installation of the boxes will allow the settlement of the bats which will only begin to be effective in the coming months.

Meanwhile, for those who want to start "hosting" a bat and say goodbye to mosquitoes, they can try to build a bat-box by themselves or buy it directly at the supermarket. Once equipped with these fantastic wooden houses, pay attention to where to put them: generally it is to place them on an external wall of the house, about 4 meters above the ground, but it would be better if near the vegetation or on a tree trunk. .
