Will we produce electricity from the windows?

The study of Dr. Wolfgang Körner, scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics and Materials, IWM, is focusing precisely on the transparency of conductive materials.

From the outside it looks like one window any. But looking at it closely, it has something different: it also produces electricity. Not only that, even the facade of the house could produce electricity. This is what the home power supply of the future could hold for us.

The study by Dr. Wolfgang Körner, scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics and Materials, IWM, is focusing on transparency of conductive materials for the production of electricity: by exploiting this property, all surfaces can be used to produce electricity.

Until now we were concerned exclusively with thermally insulate windows. But on closer inspection we will continue to do so, because there is a problem. Two layers of electron conduction are needed; one, although very expensive, is available, while the other still raises several questions, as the materials have low conduction and poor transparency. So the question perhaps has not reached the "when", but positively we note that it is not also the "if".
