In China, one of the largest solar parks in the world, the Panda Green Energy Group Limited, announces its first power plant in the province of Datong Shanxi connected to the network (grid-connected). Its characteristic is that it is one solar farm which depicts a panda.

The new power plant, which bears the name of Datong Panda Power Plant, has a total installation capacity of 100 megawatts, but during the first phase it will deliver 50 megawatts (MW) of clean energy to the grid. Panda Green Energy launched the innovative project for the construction of the Panda Power Plant in May 2016 and signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Program. In the same year, on November 20, construction of the Datong Panda Power Plant officially began.

The black parts of the panda - the ears and arms - are made up of monocrystalline silicon solar cells, while the gray and white belly and face are made up of thin-film solar cells.

In addition to providing clean electricity, at the center of the panda-shaped solar farm project is also thegoal of spreading good sustainable development practices among China's youth. A youth activity center at the power plant will in fact be aimed at school-age children, who will learn the benefits of solar energy.
