Tesla's battery unveiled to disconnect from the grid using photovoltaics

From Tesla the new domestic battery to conserve the excess energy produced by renewables. No more dependence on fossil fuels. Our homes can be powered exclusively by clean energy, saving on bills and avoiding the production of polluting emissions. On April 30th, CEO Elon Musk unveiled to the world the storage system he had been working on for some time: a 10 kWh and a 7 kWh battery, already on sale at a cost of 3.500 and 3.000 dollars respectively. They are able to power a single-family home for 1,8 billion years by disconnecting from the grid

Da Tesla the new battery domestic to conserve the excess energy produced by renewables.

Is called Powerwall and is designed for domestic use and to encourage domestic self-consumption. In fact, currently, one of the limits of photovoltaics is intermittency. For some time we have been working on storage systems for homes, capable of storing clean energy to make it available at night in the case of solar power.

Available in two versions - 7kWh ($ 3000) and 10kWh - Tesla's new battery is basically a huge UPS. All within a small size.

It is a lithium-ion battery with a thermal control system and software that receives sending commands from an inverter. The system can hang on a wall and can be integrated with the local grid to exploit excess energy and give users the flexibility to draw energy from their reserves, as explained by Tesla, who listed the benefits: economic savings, better management of energy in peak moments but also a greater diffusion of self-consumption.

Powerwall is available in an array of colors to make it a real object of furniture. It is also possible to stack the batteries, up to a maximum of nine for a total of 90kWh.

Both the version from 10kWh that one from 7 are optimized for everyday applications. Both can be connected to photovoltaics and to the grid and are able to supply backup power.

“The 10kWh version of Powerwall is optimized to provide backup when the grid goes down, providing power for your home when you need it most. When paired with solar power, the 7kWh Powerwall can be used every day to extend the environmental and cost benefits of photovoltaics at night when sunlight is not available, ”Tesla explains.

TreeHouse, is partnering with Tesla to sell Powerwall. “For the first time ever, it will be affordable and easy to have a battery in our homes,” explains TreeHouse co-founder and president Jason Ballard. “I believe that in the near future, having one at home will be as normal as having a water heater or dishwasher. This brings us one step closer to being able to power homes without the use of fossil fuels ”.

You can already make the booking. The start of shipments is expected at the end of the summer.
