This innovative (and gigantic) wind generator is capable of producing renewable energy for 80 homes

Norwegian startup Wind Catching Systems has designed huge wind generators over 300m high and promises competitive prices

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

To say goodbye to traditional fossil fuels, the Norwegian startup Wind Catching Systems (WCS) is working on a mammoth project to say the least, which takes the name of Windcatcher. It is a huge floating wind generator, made up of over one hundred small turbines connected together, capable of generating five times the energy produced by the largest wind turbines in the world.

Each of these gigantic wind generators, in fact, would be able to provide enough energy for well 80.000 homes. All this - the company promises - at competitive prices.

How does the technology designed by Wind Catching Systems

The structure designed by the Norwegian company founded in 2017 can contain more than a hundred turbines vertically within a structure over 300 meters high. The smaller rotors also operate in wind speeds between 40 and 43 km / h (27 mph), leading to a 500% increase in annual energy production.

The goal of the startup created by Asbjørn Nes, Arthur Kordt and Ole Heggheim was to revolutionize the technology for offshore wind capture, creating a competitive system that was able to operate without incentives, "maximizing energy production from a concentrated area ". And the three are well on their way.

The company has in fact announced that the plants under construction will have a duration of approximately 50 years (20 more than those envisaged for a single large turbine).

Wind Catching will make floating offshore wind farm competitive as early as 2022-2023, which is at least ten years before traditional floating offshore wind farms - explains Ole Heggheim, CEO of the Norwegian start-up. In collaboration with our main contractor Aibel, we will commercialize this innovative technology that significantly increases the efficiency of floating wind farms and reduces land use by 80%. Our goal is to enable offshore wind operators and developers to produce electricity at a cost that competes with other energy sources, without subsidies. In a nutshell, we will supply floating offshore wind at the cost of fixed-bottom technology solutions, which offer great opportunities on a global basis for the Norwegian supplier industry.
