Underwater sculptures: when waste is transformed into works of art

Waste, oceans. Waste represents a constant threat to the ecosystem of the oceans and to the living beings that populate them. Remember the plastic islands? Although their presence is now well known, it does not seem to be sufficient to contribute to the sensitization of the inhabitants of the planet to the issue of waste. In this sense, help could come from art.

I waste represent a constant threat to the ecosystem of oceans and for the living beings that populate them. Remember the plastic islands? Although their presence is now well known, it does not seem to be sufficient to contribute to the sensitization of the inhabitants of the planet to the issue of waste. In this sense, help could come from art.

So here are the underwater sculptures made using various types of waste by Mathieu Goussin e Hortense Le Calvez, of study Forlane 6. The beauty of their artistic works is able to draw the observer's attention towards the problem of litter that threatens marine ecosystems.

After a first look, pay attention to the aesthetic aspect of the works in question, one can only take a further step with the mind and come to reconsider the severity of the presence of waste in marine and oceanic waters, caused by inadequate management of the same during the carrying out of human productive activities and during the normal daily life of citizens.

The sculptures were made on the coasts of the island of Crete and photographed in shallow water. THE materials employees for their creation they were recovered along the roads or at the port of the island. The main purpose of the artists is to raise awareness, through their creations, of the extent of the environmental impact of waste on the planet.

While the problem is obvious, the worldwide production of non-recyclable materials destined to turn into waste that could reach seas and oceans does not stop. The artists appear concerned about the years to come, whether the phenomenon will continue at a speed similar to or greater than today. Their next step? Literally rekindling the spotlight on the condition of the oceans through the creation of underwater sculptures created with the use of LED lights.
