Petra, the jewel of Jordan, opens its doors online with a multimedia route available on Google Maps #iorestoacasa

If the walls of the house in which we are forced by the coronavirus become unbearable, we travel with the mind but also with the computer: Petra, the jewel of Jordan, opens its doors online with a multimedia route available on Google Maps.

Petra is a fabulous archaeological site located about 259 km south of Amman, in the southwestern desert of Jordan, dating back to 300 BC, where the remains of what was once the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom are found. The site, discovered in the XNUMXth century, is UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Entry to the public, in this period of global health crisis, is in fact impossible and so Jordan joins the #iorestoacasa movement: Petra therefore follows the many initiatives (including some of ours such as thehighly anticipated Raphael exhibition scheduled in Rome) that allow culture (and leisure) even from one's home. Naturally free.

Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) in partnership with Google Maps is now offering a virtual tour of one of the most impressive places in the world - the Nabatean city of Petra. And it will be Rania Al-Abdulla, the Jordanian queen, who will tell us the story of this wonder of the world.

"Over 2.000 years ago the Nabataeans founded Petra, the city of stone - we read on the site that opens the virtual doors of this show - Travel with us to discover what lies beyond the unmistakable entrance to the city and discover one of the most incredible wonders of the world, forgotten by time ".

Among other things, as stated in the introduction of the tour, many people believe that Petra starts and ends in El Tesoro, but in reality the archaeological site of the city has much more to offer. And with this initiative it's all, virtual yes, but free.

The site invites you to use headphones to fully immerse yourself in the visit with multimedia experience, looking at the images and listening to the queen who tells the story of this ancient city.
