Re-Book, at Fuori Salone 2010, extends the life of books by giving them a second chance.

The usual appointment with the Salone del Mobile is approaching and, unmissable, with the Salone comes the Fuori Salone. From 13 to 19 April, Milan will be the spatial dimension of a double event, inside and outside the Salone, made up of exhibitions, locations, aperitifs, people, works by artists from all over the world and many interesting initiatives. We anticipate one that concerns the books. It is called Re-Book e gives the lyrics a second chance.

Re-Book, conceived by Minimum fax, has the objective of extend the life of the books creating a specialalternative to pulping. We talk about tons and tons of testi, manuals, volumes and encyclopedias, often ruined copies, breakdowns or production waste that add up to out-of-print books and old editions.

Minimum fax gives a second chance to old copies published by the same house: reuse! Books become the starting point for creating something new, different.

By recovering industrial waste, goods at the end of the cycle are thus reused and become a new resource, allowing a net saving of raw materials. The benefits in environmental terms are then evident, a lower energy consumption brings less emissions and therefore a net CO2 reduction released into the atmosphere.

Recycling and reuse that in design allows to create unique pieces, conceived from different scraps and therefore absolutely inimitable. Eco-design becomes an added value and draws attention to the double artistic and ethical value of the product on the market.

And right from Re-Book, it comes  Re-Book Design Contest, a competition organized in collaboration with amanei / salina and the Interuniversity Research Center for Sustainable Development of the Sapienza University of Rome, aimed at the production of objects designed starting from the recycling of books and book waste.

The competition will be launched at the FuoriSalone by Minimum fax through two initiatives: "There's no rose without thorns" is "The organic book market".

“There is no rose without thorns”, by Alice Visin, is an unusual yet fascinating installation that presents a paper garden created with books destined for waste. You can admire it in Dorota Koziara's studio (Alzaia Naviglio Grande, 42 - Milan).

The organic market, on the other hand, will see the presence of Re-Book on the occasion of the Public Design Festival, in corso Vigevano 28. Here you can buy and trade books by weight, exchange used books for Minimum fax books and meet different authors.

The following month, from 13 to 17 May 2010, the competition will also be presented at Turin International Book Fair, to reach another important audience interested by the initiative, the publishers.

The proposals of the participants in the competition will be evaluated by a multi-disciplinary jury of experts from various sectors (designers, artists, industrialists) and the winning works will be awarded in September.

The winning works will be proposed to various producers to promote their creation and sale on a large scale.
