The tree project: the art that gives expression to trees

We had already told you about Guerrilla Knitting and Yarn Bombing as art forms and expressions of creativity aimed at beautifying both the urban environment and the rural landscape, in particular in the case of abandoned and rather desolate areas, in order to attract attention. on them. For some years, however, there has also been a different artistic form that aims to convey more our critical gaze towards nature, with particular reference to trees.

We had already talked about Guerrilla Knitting and Yarn Bombing as art forms and expressions of creativity aimed at beautifying both the urban environment and the rural landscape, in particular in the case of abandoned and rather desolate areas, in order to draw attention to them. For some time, however, there has also been a different one art form which aims to convey more our critical gaze towards nature, with particular reference to trees.

In this regard, a project called “The Tree Project” was born in Germany and led by the artistic collective Zonenkinder. It draws inspiration from the beauty of nature and trees, but not solely for aesthetic purposes. THE tree trunks they are chosen to be used as if they were canvases to paint on - naturally without causing any damage to the plants - and give birth to faces and expressions capable of giving trees an anthropomorphic aspect, which should lead the observer to feel more in tune with them.

The primary purpose of the project is to demonstrate how our attention to trees is often nothing and like ours atteggiamento towards them usually either indifferent, if not destructive. One might think that trees are already so characterized by an amazing natural beauty thanks to which there should be no need to create works of art on them to make them more visible and appreciable to our eyes, but the continuous news relating to operations of deforestation, often fraudulent and illegal, of forests, let us understand how respect for them often reaches almost zero levels.

The trees with trunks painted with funny or thoughtful faces and expressions became the protagonists of the natur Festival which took place in May of this year in Germany, in the locality of Bochum. If we could see faces and expressions similar to ours on the trunks of the trees, we would become more respectful towards them? The ability to identify human features in what is non-human around us is called "Pareidolia". It would represent a sort of subconscious illusion that is supposed to have played a not secondary role in our evolution, in particular for the purpose of survival and recognition of any enemies or dangerous situations.
