Esohe Ozigbo, a very young environmental activist, walks the catwalk with her companions, wearing clothes made of plastic bags in the city of Lagos, Nigeria.

Ozigbo and the other volunteers of the non-profit organization Green Fingers Garden sew plastic to fabrics to create garments that they wear during the “Trashion Show”. This provocative event, which plays on the crasis of the English words “Trash” (garbage) and “Fashion”, is an event aimed at raising awareness among the inhabitants of the city on the theme of recycling and the problems generated by the waste that invades the metropolis.

    The young activist told Reuters:

The Trashion Show means a lot to me, I've been doing it for years and it's like a way to show everyone what we can do with the trash we discard. We are only teenagers but we are trying to bring about a change in the world.

Green Fingers Garden founder Chinedu Mogbo explained:

Rather than taking all the garbage to a landfill ... We decided to reuse it and do the "Trashion Show"

Recently Ozigbo and his group forded the watercourse of the Sangotedo neighborhood, collecting hundreds of plastic bottles, food containers and bags that blocked the river. Wearing gloves and masks, the boys cleaned the area of huge amounts of plastic.

Their purpose was to allow water to flow freely, focusing attention, through a practical demonstration, on the damage caused by single-use plastic and the abandonment of waste in nature.

We are the generation that will be leaders in a few years (…) we have to start acting now, because in a few years it will be too late to do anything. We are only teenagers, but we are trying to make a change in the world "

    concluded the girl.
