On its Facebook page, Locanda dei Girasoli, a pizzeria restaurant run by Down Boys announces its closure
Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerousWe have told you several times about the Locanda dei Girasoli, a pizza restaurant located in the Quadraro district in Rome where many boys and girls with Down syndrome work. Several times due to the economic crisis, Covid and a series of logistical and bureaucratic problems, the Locanda risked closing but this time the (obligatory) choice seems to be definitive.
The announcement is made by the managers of the Locanda dei Girasoli themselves, a place that for 22 has given a job and a future to many young people with Down syndrome who have found an opportunity for training and job inclusion here.

A special place, very dear to the Romans who have supported it several times in times of difficulty with energy and affection and even today, faced with the imminent closure, they wonder if it is still possible to do something to avoid it.

Our boys have learned more than one trade and the meaning of the word WORK by becoming true professionals. They met adversity and overcame it by facing it head on. They knew respect for others and shared all of themselves in the most genuine way. They have created a family that bears the name of a splendid flower that always follows the sun. In April 2021 other problems arose, a series of urgent repairs that the cooperative could not afford but which were then somehow solved since the pizza restaurant run by girls and boys with Down syndrome has continued to operate until now. These days, however, the cold shower. The Locanda closes and with it also closes the possibility for many young people to have the opportunity they deserve, in a world that still has too much difficulty in accepting the particularities of each one.
We sincerely hope that something can be done to save her once again.
