Born fromintertwining of stories that the wood of which it will be built represents, this sailboat combines the spirit of the purest romanticism, linked to the memories that each piece evokes, to that of the most profound environmentalism, since it allows you to reuse a considerable amount of wood which would otherwise be lost. The boat, designs with a contemporary design by a professional boat builder, is under construction in West Sussex, but it will gradually take shape based on the type of donations.
The crew, who will sail on the "Boat of memories" from May to June 2012, with stops in 4 stages in different locations, including the skipper, will be nominated by the public, testifying to the most complete involvement of "ordinary" people in this project.
The Boat Project is an idea of the Lone Twin theater company and will participate in the London 2012 Cultural Olympics, which will take place simultaneously with the most famous "sports" Olympics and which include various sectors, from science to art, from literature to environment, up to technology, for a total of five stars instead of five rings. “It's our most ambitious project - explains Lone Twin on own site– and to build our boat we need your wood. But not of any old wood: we want something that is part of you, which can tell us a story ". In short, a kind of “floating” archive of people's lives. So, for the first time, we won't be the ones to tell the story of a boat, but a boat to tell our stories, that will keep memories and fragments of different lives afloat but literally intertwined in a single, solid construction. All in the name of the best principles of eco-sustainability and the fight against consumerism.
