Taranto mourns another little warrior. Vincenzo Semeraro, the 11-year-old boy who was struggling with a rare tumor, died

Yet another victim in Taranto, the city of Ilva. Vincenzo Semeraro died at the age of 11, struck down by a rare bone tumor.

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

The city of Taranto mourns yet another very young cancer victim. To have lost his life a few days ago is Vincenzo Semeraro, an 11-year-old boy who was struggling with a rare bone tumor. The condition of the little boy, who had recently also contracted Covid-19, had worsened in recent days.

Vincenzo lived in Tamburi district of Taranto, not far from the steel plant ex Ilva. The news of his death, which took place on November 29 at the Bambino Gesù hospital in Rome where he was hospitalized, shook the Taranto community, causing a wave of pain mixed with anger for the loss of another angel, who had flown to heaven too soon .

The neighborhood association Fighting drums, which for years has been asking for greater protection of health (put at risk by the Ilva eco-monster), the closure of polluting sources and the reclamation of land and aquifers, wanted to express its closeness to the family of little Vincenzo in this way:

We learn that little Vincenzo, unfortunately, did not make it. He fought to the end. We are close to the family ...

Doctor Annamaria Moschetti, who has always been at the forefront of the environmental battle in Taranto, also spoke on the sad story with a post on Facebook:

Vincenzo died. He was 11 years old and lived in the Tamburi district of Taranto. He lived exposed to acting substances ...

Numerous citizens took part in Vincenzo's funeral, including several children who in tears wanted to greet their dear friend for the last time. The sadness is great, but even stronger is the anger of the parents of Taranto who have been fighting for a better future for their children for years.

The story of little Vincenzo

Last summer we told you the story of Vincenzo Semeraro and the surprise organized for him by friends who had gathered under the balcony of his house to encourage him in his difficult battle against cancer.

Vincenzo is 10 years old and has a rare tumor, his friends sing a chorus to encourage him

Little Vincenzo was suffering from a primary lymphoblastic lymphoma of the bones. The terrible diagnosis came at the end of 2019, upsetting his life and that of his family. After undergoing several cycles of chemotherapy at the Policlinico di Bari, the child had moved with his family to Rome to begin immunotherapy treatment and then attempt a bone marrow transplant. In response to the appeal from the family, who could not bear all the costs related to the treatments, a solidarity competition was launched which led to the collection of 8.000 euros.

Unfortunately, however, Vincenzo's conditions worsened at the end of October and the disease took him away. How many other victims will we still have to count before stopping the silent massacre of Taranto ?!
