In 2035 the renewables they will overtake coal, but today economic aid for fossil fuels is greater than that for clean energy. The good and bad news come from the International Energy Agency which presented the2012 edition of the World Energy Outlook (WEO).

La global energy map it is changing dramatically. Above all, it is the States United which in a few years will overtake the Arab countries for oil production. According to the WEO, the extraordinary growth of oil and natural gas in the States it will lead to a change of direction in global energy flows. In the new political scenario outlined by the dossier, the United States will become the first exporter of natural gas by 2020 and will be almost completely self-sufficient from an energy point of view by 2035.

2035, a fateful date for energy. In fact, in 23 years, the one produced by renewable sources will surpass the energy produced from fossil sources. But already in three years, in 2015 renewables will become the second largest source of electricity generation. A steady increase in hydroelectricity and the rapid expansion of wind and solar have cemented the position of renewable energy in the global landscape. By 2035, renewables will account for one third of total electricity generation. The solar it grows faster than any other renewable technology.

However, the rapid increase in renewable energies must be supported by subsidies. The $ 88 billion invested worldwide in 2011 will not be enough. In 2011, the subsidies (including for biofuels) were therefore equal to 88 billion dollars, but to achieve the desired results up to 2035 they will have to amount to 4.800 billions of dollars. Unfortunately, however, more than half of these subsidies are already been engaged for existing projects or to achieve the 2020 targets. It is a pity, however, that aid to support fossil fuels is six times higher than that for clean energy.

But the bad news isn't over. According to the International Energy Agency, although ambitions about the atom have been scaled back considerably after theFukushima accident, nuclear power generation it is still set to increase, led by China, Korea, India and Russia.

"Our analysis shows that, in the absence of a concerted political push, two-thirds of the cost-effective potential to improve energy efficiency will remain unrealized until 2035," he said Fatih Birol, chief economist of the IEA and lead author of the WEO.

The future of energy still swims in murky waters, as black as the Petroleum.
