La Michoacan forest it is nicknamed 'Forest of Butterflies'. Here the butterflies gather in the trees and on the grass creating a truly extraordinary spectacle, but unfortunately man continues to threaten nature.
The migration of monarch butterflies is one of nature's most fascinating mysteries. The butterflies begin arriving in Mexico towards the end of October in search of a place with a mild climate to spend the winter. Between February and March, the butterflies return to the United States and Canada.
In the weeks preceding the departure of the butterflies, in Mexico the spectacle of their presence among the trees becomes astonishing. The butterfly forest is a sanctuary protected by law and represents one of the most popular tourist attractions for the country but unfortunately all this has not stopped man's tendency to destroy nature in the name of greed. The colorful monarch butterfly travels 5000 kilometers back home from Mexico to California, but its chances of survival are dwindling.

The butterfly forest is becoming a victim ofillegal felling of trees. Local populations are not always able to defend it from woodcutters. The government should step in and enforce the law. Offenders should be stopped and brought to trial, as the law punishes anyone who cuts down trees without permission with five to eight years in prison.

Furthermore, the reopening of the old Angangueo mine, for the extraction of copper, zinc, gold and silver, could mark the end of this magical place. Not to mention that the widespread use of herbicides on the crops of soy and more GMOs it is destroying the natural habitat of monarch butterflies and the flowers where the larvae transform into butterflies.
