Since yesterday afternoon, Etna has a new vent, at an altitude of 2100 meters, while this morning the eruption from the South-East crater resumed

Something moves (again) onEtna. Yesterday afternoon the highest active volcano in Europe surprised everyone with a lava flow, which originated from a new effusive vent, which opened at the base of the Valle del Bove, about 2100 meters above sea level. Fortunately, the event was not preceded by any earthquake. Many Sicilian photographers and enthusiasts who have immortalized the spectacle of the lava meeting the white snow.

The lava flow continued its path even today, reaching the area of the Centenary Mountains, stopping at an estimated altitude between 1700 and 1800 meters. In the meantime, however, explosive activity at the south-east crater of Etna (which for some time had become the highest peak of the Sicilian volcano) also resumed in the late morning. As also happened in recent months, the eruption was accompanied by a huge cloud of lava ash that fell on various municipalities in the Catanese area.

Ash plume emitted from the South-East Crater of Etna at lunchtime on December 14, 2021, passing precisely over our house in Tremestieri Etneo. Since then, however, the wind has slowly changed direction and the plume goes more to the south-east
