But how did the research start?
To try to unravel the ancient mystery of the vanished city, the expert researchers began to analyze a satellite photo and thanks to this they were able to identify a located north of Cadiz, in Spain. Then, immersed in the waters of the Dona Ana Natural Park, they came to precisely define the precise place where Atlantis is located, which apparently is one city structured in concentric rings.
Since that time, the team of archaeologists (between 2009 and 2010) began monitoring the site using powerful radar, a digital map and sophisticated equipment capable of operating underwater.
The thesis of the discovery of Atlantis was supported - as Freund himself said - also by a series of
city-monument, which were built in the image and likeness of Atlantis, after the destruction of the city, by groups of refugees who escaped the violent tsunami.
But that's not all, because to support the discovery of American scientists there is also another interesting fact: in that Spanish region rogue waves were very frequent for centuries and the last dates back to November 1755.
At this point, the tsunami would explain the sudden disappearance of the city of Atlantis, which - as the stories and treatises on the subject have always told - was suddenly submerged by water.
This incredible new discovery will be told in the special "Discovering Atlantis", broadcast next Sunday on the American channel of National Geographic.
