Today March 18 is World Recycling Day. A problem is that of waste that must be faced on a daily basis. Thanks to social media, on the occasion of the Global Recycling Day 2019, a real challenge was organized to promote recycling by exploiting the power of sport.

Unfortunately, even if some young people are very sensitive to environmental issues, less than half (49%) of those between the ages of 16 and 34 recycle "whatever they can". To say it is a survey conducted by Future Thinking. The theme for 2019 is Recycling into the Future.

The Global Recycling Day was born in 2018 to help recognize and celebrate the importance of recycling in preserving our precious resources and guaranteeing a future for the younger generations, a future dedicated to sustainability.

On the occasion of the Global Recycling Day 2019, the Global Recycling Foundation launched the challenge #RecyclingGoals, a real movement that is depopulating on social media and exploiting the appeal of football to inspire long-term recycling habits in young people around the world.

Through the campaign, the foundation hopes to motivate the kids even more:

"With the #RecyclingGoals campaign, we aim to encourage as many people as possible to share the message about the importance of recycling, to actively participate in the challenge and to push the energy of the social media movement" has explained Ranjit Baxi, founder and president of Global Recycling Day.

How to participate in #RecyclingGoals

It really is that simple. Social media users around the world simply need to shoot a video of setting themselves a goal by making a long-term commitment to improve recycling practices. For example:

"I am committed to recycling all of my plastic bottles from today and I have appointed John Smith to take the #RecyclingGoals challenge."

The video must then be shared on social networks, together with any photos of the target reached, using the hashtag #RecyclingGoals and tagging Global Recycling Day on Instagram o Facebook.

Global Recycling Day in London

The challenge is even more heated in London where today a real race will take place on Carnaby Street, in which a temporary goal will be set up. Recycling bins were placed to allow attendees to attempt to overcome their #RecyclingGoals challenge in real time.

Many other cities in the world have also devised similar initiatives, from Paris to Washington, from Sao Paulo to Delhi.

However, we too can participate in trying to achieve our personal goal and encouraging friends and family to do the same!
