Record-breaking banksky: the work with the parliament populated by chimpanzees sold at auction for 11,1 million euros

Bansky's work with the chimpanzee-populated parliament was auctioned for € 11,1 million, a new record for the artist.

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

Il “Monkey Parliament” by Banksy, which depicts the British parliament populated by chimpanzees, was sold at auction da Sotheby’s per 11,1 million euro, equal to 9,9 million pounds, beating a new record for the artist

The previous one belonged to “Keep it Spotless”, which in 2008 was sold in New York for 1,8 million dollars or 1,7 million euros. The starting price, this time, was 1,5-2 million pounds which correspond to a figure between 1 and 2,25 million euros.

After thirteen minutes of disputed auctions and ten collectors who have contributed to dramatically increase the price, the work has reached the staggering figure but the identity of thebuyer remains a mystery.

The 2009 painting, whose original title is a play on words, "Devolved Parliament“, Or“ devolved ”parliament, as if to say regressed from the evolutionary point of view, it is about 4 and a half meters wide and 2 and a half meters high without a frame.

And luckily it did not go into a thousand pieces as feared, given that last year, at Sotheby's, the work "Girl with Balloon" was destroyed at a distance perhaps by Bansky himself, who had designed it specifically because did this end while it was being sold.

The record price for a Banksy painting set at auction tonight. Too bad it no longer belonged to me.
