    Pompeii still amazes: a unique tomb with a semi-mummified body discovered

    He's a fence and his is one facade decorated with green plants its a blue background and a camera per l'burial. Not a small detail, considering that the excavations of Pompeii represent a period in which in the city the bodies of adults were always reduced to ashes. This is the latest discovery made in the archaeological excavations of Pompeii: one grave complete with a marble inscription from which comes the first confirmation that in the theaters of the Roman colony, at least in the last moments before the eruption of 79 AD, it was also recited in Greek.

    We are outside Porta Sarno and here the archaeologists led by the director Zuchtriegel have found the intact burial of Marcus Venerius Secundio.

    On the marble slab on the pediment of the tomb the commemorative inscription of the owner recalls for the first time the performance in Pompeii of shows in Greek, which had never before been found directly. What is known, in fact, is that in the two buildings used by the ancient Pompeians for performances, the theatrum (the Great Theater) and the theatrum tectum, or Odeion, on the one hand comedies and tragedies were represented, on the other mimes, music and poetry.

    Once again a fascinating and mysterious story that comes from the latest discovery of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, brought to light thanks to a massive excavation campaign conducted with the European University of Valencia. A discovery on which an interdisciplinary team of experts is working and from which a lot is expected - say the director of the Park Gabriel Zuchtriegel and Llorenç Alapont of the University of Valencia - also for the conservation conditions of the deceased, who appears in part mummified , the head covered with white hair, a partially preserved ear, as well as small portions of the fabric that enveloped it.



    One of the best-preserved skeletons of the ancient city, Zuchtriegel tells ANSA.
