Photovoltaics: The test reveals which are the most efficient solar panels among these three brands

Photovoltaic against expensive bills? Yes, but we are looking for panels with the highest possible efficiency. A study conducted by a research group of the University of Dschang (Cameroon) tested the products of three Chinese brands, Trina Solar, Canadian Solar and Felicity Solar

Photovoltaics can help families and businesses to reduce their bill costs, but not all solar panels are the same. A research group of the University of Dschang (Cameroon) has verified the efficiency of the products of Trina Solar, Canadian Solar e Felicity Solar, all Chinese.

The test

The test was carried out by reconstructing the plant configuration, in which the heat produced by the photovoltaic panel is recovered through a thermally insulated helical coil heat exchanger and used to heat the water.

In particular, a south-facing system with an inclination angle of six degrees was built with monocrystalline solar modules from Canadian Solar (305 W), Trinasolar (305 W) and Felicity Solar (250 W).

Scientists explained that the temperature below the modules and the system is managed by a microcontroller that switches the different interfaces and by two knobs that allow the regulation of different temperature ranges.

The system was tested on the second level of the building that houses the local company Solaring, in the climatic conditions of the city of Bafoussam, in the western region of Cameroon, monitoring the different temperatures of the hybrid system and the temperature of the water at the exit of the exchanger.

To evaluate the performance of the photovoltaic modules were used current and voltage sensors, with measurements taken over four days at five-minute intervals.

The results

Scientists found that Canadian Solar's PV / T system with modules achieved the better overall efficiency, at 57,59%. With an average irradiation of 877 W / m2, these modules have in fact achieved an average power conversion efficiency of 16,8%, an average photovoltaic thermal water efficiency of 18,89%, an increase of 12,3, 38,7% of the energy yield, an average photovoltaic thermal water efficiency of 41%, and an average hot water temperature of XNUMX degrees Celsius.

For comparison, Trina's module achieved an average power conversion efficiency of 16,0%, an average photovoltaic thermal water electrical efficiency of 18,42%, an 11,8% growth in energy yield. , an average photovoltaic thermal water efficiency of 39,1% and an average hot water temperature of 41,5 degrees Celsius.

Felicity Solar's panel got the poorer performance, with an average power conversion efficiency of 15,8%, an average photovoltaic electrical thermal water efficiency of 17,02%, an 11,0% growth in energy yield, a thermal photovoltaic thermal efficiency average water temperature of 38,7%, and an average hot water temperature of 41 degrees Celsius.

This approach made it possible to recover part of the electrical power of the modules dispersed in the form of heat by determining the amount of hot water that can be produced by a photovoltaic module - the scientists conclude - The prototype created and tested also allowed us to note that the electrical performance of PV / T water systems also vary according to the type and brand of solar module chosen. As far as thermal performance is concerned, they vary according to the type of solar module chosen
