There are no secret chambers in Tutankhamun's tomb, known by the code Kv62. This was established by the Archaeo-Physics team led by Professor Franco Porcelli of the Polytechnic of Turin. Since February they have been looking for the tomb of Queen Nefertiti, in Luxor, in the Valley of the Kings.

We talked about it a few months ago, when the researchers had the final ok to carry out checks on the geo-radar and check for empty spaces behind the wall of the baby pharaoh's burial chamber. The research could have given some truth to the theories put forward by the English Egyptologist Nicholas Reeves who has always maintained that the tomb could be part of a large burial belonging to Queen Nefertiti.

But the outcome was negative: the team provided definitive evidence that these rooms did not exist, confirming the previous analysis by American and Japanese scientists. This conclusion was reached after an operation that lasted from January 31 to February 6, in which three different types of latest generation radar were used, capable of giving a 99% safe response.

The hypothesis of the Egyptologist Reeves at this point, therefore, has no more reason to exist. All the details of the research were disclosed by Professor Porcelli at the fourth international conference on Tutankhamun which was held at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza.

"Radar scans inside the tomb showed that there are no chambers or traces of door frames or entrances," Mostafa Waziri, head of the State Supreme Council for Antiquities, said in a statement.

Two attempts had already been made in the past to locate hidden passages or chambers with the radar, but only this third is considered the most reliable. The scientific report delivered by Professor Porcelli to Waziry and to the Egyptian Minister of Antiquities, Khaled el-Enany ends with this sentence:

"We conclude, with a very high degree of security, that the hypothesis relating to the existence of hidden chambers adjacent to the tomb of Tutankhamun is not supported by the GPR data".

According to Porcelli, the anomalies that had been previously detected would be nothing more than ghost signals, or false reflections that the radar created in front of the walls and not behind them.
