The Indian Prime Minister has collected the plastic together with the garbage workers to set a good example for his country.

Single-use plastics will be banned from India by 2022, this is the goal proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who in these days met 25 garbage workers as part of the government's “Swachhta Hi Seva” ecological awareness program in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

Sitting on the ground with the women who select plastic from waste, the Prime Minister with this gesture wanted to send an important message, aware of how urgent is a change in the name of environmental sustainability in a country, like India, where the plastic pollution is particularly heavy.

In fact, the Minister reported to the UN that India will put an end to single-use plastic by 2022, developing sustainable alternatives as well as an efficient method of collecting and disposing of existing plastic. And he invited the whole world to follow his example given the ongoing climate crisis.

In addition, in August, on his twitter profile, he published a post aimed precisely at citizens, asking them if they are ready to permanently free India from single-use plastic.

In short, the Minister is serious, we hope he encourages even the countries less sensitive to the environmental issue to change course before it is too late.
