Empty The Cages: Dan Witz's street art in London to denounce the conditions of animals on farms

“If the slaughterhouses had glass walls, we would all be vegetarians”. This famous phrase by Paul McCartney opens the Empty The Cages campaign, where art is put at the center as a tool that has the power to transform, illuminate, educate, inspire and motivate change.

“If the slaughterhouses had glass walls, we would all be vegetarians”. This is the motto of the campaign PETA Empty The Cages, where art is placed at the center as a tool that has the power to transform, illuminate, educate, inspire and motivate change.

At the heart of the PETA campaign we find the works of Dan joke, 56-year-old artist, originally from Chicago and now living in Brooklyn. He takes care of street art in New York since the 2s. His works play with light and dark, transforming 3D into XNUMXD. He was hired by the animal rights association to create a large-scale project that could have led to his arrest, as the installation risked being outlawed.

Witz, at the request of PETA UK, spent the summer preparing the material needed for the Empty The Cages installation. The objective of the work consists in spreading greater awareness of the poor conditions of animals on farms. The artist flew to the UK to shape his work last September.

Each part of the installation is equipped with a QR Code which allows the public to receive more information on abuses against animals perpetrated on farms. Witz is grateful that he was able to take part in this mission, but he would have taken several risks, as he would have made his installations in public places without asking any permission from the authorities.

The works are interactive and intrigue passers-by who can meet them on the streets of London. The artist thanks PETA for helping him achieve something new and important with his art. He has been a vegetarian for years and is taking a path to switch to vegan. Deepening the theme of intensive farming is helping him to make this choice of profound respect for animals.
