EcoBoat: in Cameroon, plastic bottles become ecological boats for fishermen

From the idea of an engineer, a light, comfortable and economical boat was born to recycle plastic and help local fishermen

La plastic, resistant and almost indestructible, represents a huge problem as it resists in the environment for decades, fragmenting and polluting soils, rivers and seas.

Furthermore, plastics, microplastics and nanoplastics injure and kill wildlife and, once ingested by animals, enter the food chain and they also end up on our plate.

The problem is dramatic on a global level and is even more serious in the Developing countries, where separate collection practically does not exist, since there are often no economic resources to build systems capable of recycling waste.

How can we prevent cities, waterways and seas from being literally submerged by plastic? The idea came to an engineer from Cameroon, Ismael Essome Ebone, determined to find a solution.

The man managed to come up with a project thanks to which the plastic bottles can be transformed into EcoBoat, small ecological boats, functional, comfortable and light and above all very economical and within everyone's reach.

The specials boats made from plastic bottles they are intended for needy fishermen engaged in the conservation of the coastal marine area of Kribi and also used to promote local ecotourism.

Thanks to Ismael's commitment, the non-profit association Madiba & Nature was born three years ago, which today offers work to dozens of people employed in the recovery, selection and reuse of plastic waste.

In addition to building boats with recovered plastic, Madiba & Nature also works to educate and train citizens through courses on recycling and reuse of waste and environmental education programs intended for individuals and businesses.
