When they say "Giving new life to waste": have you ever seen a pc monitor transformed into a vase for flowers or a week made entirely with electronic waste? These are the latest artwork created by the prisoners of Forlì and Bologna using the WEEE and you can admire them until November 12 in the stand of Museum of Recycling a ecomondo, the international fair of green economy which is taking place in Rimini.

It seems incredible, but these wonders are made entirely thanks to the creative recycling of electronic waste as part of a project born in 2005 called"WEEE in prison" for the social and work reintegration of prisoners of the district houses d Bologna, Forlì e Ferrara, with workshops for the creative processing of WEEE which are managed, under the coordination of Techne, by the social cooperatives it2, Gulliver and Il Germoglio.

Ecolight, the consortium that deals with the management of waste from electrical and electronic equipment, is a partner of the Forlì laboratory: exhibiting the works of prisoners in the stand of the Museum of recycling, created in a virtual guise precisely on the initiative of the consortium, was therefore a natural evolution of this collaboration. "We decided to host the works created at the within the WEEE in prison project, an important initiative from a social and environmental point of view where, through the disassembly of electronic waste, a solid job opportunity is given to people in criminal execution ”, explains Walter Camarda, president of Ecolight.

THEart that is born behind bars and which it uses as raw materials waste, as widespread as they are dangerous for humans and the environment, such as electronic ones, therefore becomes an opportunity to re-educate prisoners by involving them in activities that are inspired by the values of respect and legality. Moreover, thanks to Ecomondo, the Museum of Recycling from a virtual space is transformed into a place that can be visited, also exhibiting other works, including some presented at the latest edition of the international painting and design competition. "Waste in search of an author" and those created by Olga Marciano and Giuseppe Gorga exclusively for the exhibition of the Museum in Rimini.

Recycle WEEE, by now we know, it is fundamental for our health and for the well-being of the environment: in addition to reduce the volume of waste, in fact, it is also avoided that the harmful substances contained in household appliances and electronic devices are dispersed into the environment. The Forlì laboratory has given a great deal of help in this regard: since the start of the activities in 2009 it has in fact processed about 300 tons of WEEE, involving 6 detainees, 3 of which have been hired.
