Concert inside a wind turbine to say no to nuclear power in Wales

The Super Furry Animals keyboardist will play his new record in a very strange place: inside a wind turbine

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

Cian Ciarán, keyboardist of the rock band Super Furry Animals, will play tonight in front of seven spectators inside the shuttle of a wind turbine in 67 meters high. To promote his new album “They are nothing without us”, but also for say no to nuclear power in Wales.

The cover of Ciaràn's new album is quite apocalyptic, with that Christ the Redeemer who stands on a devil surrounded by mountains made of black garbage bags and from high voltage pylons, wind turbines and oil wells. But it sure isn't weird enough compared to location of the concert of this evening.

In fact, Cian Ciaràn will play his keyboard and sing from the top of a 67-meter wind turbine, from inside the engine room with a panoramic view of the Glalles. Before him only seven people (space is scarce), in addition to the ugly prospect of revitalizing the production of electricity from nuclear power.

The exclusive concert, in fact, also serves to raise public awareness on the plan to add new nuclear power plants in Wales, one of the homelands of wind energy. The last atomic reactor in the region, that of Wylfa, was due to close in two years, but the Japanese Hitachi bought the right to build new ones for 700 million pounds.

“Without a doubt, Wylfa's should be the last nuclear power plant in Wales. We don't need nuclear power, ”Ciaràn told the Guardian. According to the artist, on the contrary, it should focus on renewables.

With the interview with the Guardian, among other things, Ciaràn made known the location that was unknown until yesterday when the artist wrote on his Facebook page: “I will play #Tanwu in a special location in Norfolk“. A link led to another page describing the place as very secret and the space available as very limited.

The lucky ones who will attend the concert tonight, free among other things, will be just seven but the echo of the initiative has reached thousands and thousands of Welsh who, like Ciaràn, would gladly say goodbye to nuclear power.
