Captain Fantastic: Parenting is a great (and difficult) adventure

Yes, because there is no school that takes. Being a parent, today as a thousand years ago, has an infinite series of facets, involves a considerable number of doubts, carries with it a big trunk of "if" and "but". And he turns you into a real superhero.

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

Yes, because there is no school that takes. Being a parent, today as a thousand years ago, has an infinite series of facets, involves a considerable number of doubts, drags with him a big trunk so big of "if" and "but". And she turns you into a authentic superhero.

Because, if it is beautiful and complex, if it is rewarding and anxious at the same time and if it takes often (read always) an instruction manual, being a parent could be a bit more complicated, especially since certain beliefs, beliefs and values are added to the weaving. Obviously, those are always there and must always be passed on to the children, but when thinking and acting "inescapably" confronts objective difficulties, the question may arise spontaneously and relentlessly: "Am I making the correct choices?".

The answer, alas, will never come. And that's kind of the situation she's in Ben, the protagonist of the film - "Captain Fantastic" by Matt Ross, of which we are media partners - who makes his life and that of his children one authentic adventure.

Ben, played by Viggo Mortensen, isolated from the world in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, he lives with his wife and their six children and tries to raise the boys in what he believes to be the best way, making them live in close contact with nature and the most basic things .

Captain Fantastic: Parenting is a great (and difficult) adventure

But when a tragedy strikes the family, everyone is forced to leave that life and everyone, including Ben, must face the real world of things his children don't even know.
The father had chosen for them, he had chosen to keep them away from materiality, corruption, pollution, big and ugly cities. He had done it by weaving a web of his own, living his parenting as a pure mission, but a trip to the outside world will cast doubt on his idea of what it means to be a parent and everything he taught his children.

Here it is, then, the point: parenting is a great adventure, more difficult than you think. It is right to raise children in the belief that another world is possible, to educate them to respect nature, but, perhaps, in the case of the protagonist of the film, it is always better not to forget how the world really turns.

What can we do, then, to make our children follow green principles that are most important to us without too many upsets? Let's start with the simplest things; everything else will come only and only from their choices:

    1. Provide them with fresh, healthy food, teach them about the seasonality of products and the value of simpler foods

    2. Dress them in organic fabrics and untreated and choose toys made of natural material

    3. For their hygiene, prefer only delicate and natural products

    4. Take trips out of town and in the green as soon as possible

    5. Lead by example and keep in mind that, as Montessori claimed, the child is an "absorbent mind", so it is also good to keep it away from environments with bad energy and from people who fight, judge, complain and think only the worst.

Don't forget, then, to make sure that do not be afraid to know and listen to each other, so that they know and listen to others too, to grasp their fears and make them a force, without ever judging them. Encourage them to find their talent and to have faith in oneself and in life. This is precisely where your adventure and theirs start: a united family that takes into account the personality of the individual is the most important thing to raise better individuals.
