Made with an old parable, this solar cooker represents, especially in areas of extreme poverty, a sustainable and cheaper alternative to cooking.

With the intent of helping people in poverty, without neglecting the environmental impact, Maximino Antonio Piedad, a 71-year-old Mexican, invented a solar cooker made exclusively with recycled materials. An economic and sustainable idea that will make it possible for many families in economic difficulty to use renewable energy for food processing.

Don Antonio lives in Ecatepec, one of the poorest municipalities not only in the region of the State of Mexico, but also in the entire country, characterized by high rates of poverty and extreme poverty. For many people in these areas, who have not even turned on basic services, this stove represents a much cheaper and more sustainable alternative since it uses only the clean energy of the sun, completely eliminating the costs of electricity, gas and use of wood.

The kitchen, built with recycled common materials, uses an old parabola placed in the lower part, about 50 centimeters from the grill, which reflects the sun, generating the heat necessary to heat the food. It can be used to prepare different types of food or, as Antonio says, even just to heat the water for coffee.

The idea came to his mind when he observed some people trying to build a sun-powered kitchen with a wheel and a mirror. After six months of continuous testing, he managed to perfect that idea and make his own solar stove, selling it at affordable prices. The proceeds from the sales use it to self-finance and help its neighbors who are going through a difficult economic situation.

Don Antonio, a native of Amatitla Santiago, did not have the opportunity to go to school, however, this did not prevent him. At the age of 20 he decided to self-taught Spanish and began traveling to the State of Mexico in search of a better life opportunity.

After having seen and appreciated this kitchen, alternative and ecological, conceived by the 71-year-old, social users, impressed by his noble cause, made the video of the solar cooker viral, allowing him to spread his invention and receive more support from the people. Thanks to the visibility he received, he was able to sell his project also in other areas of Mexico, even reaching the United States.
