After the fire that made the Salario plant unusable, one wonders now what are the consequences for garbage collection in Rome. For now it seems none, since the plant is not out of order and will be able to continue working, but the damage caused to the environment and to citizens of the eastern suburbs of Rome (and beyond) due to toxic smoke. Arpa teams are at work to monitor air quality, but they certainly will not be able to bring good news to the inhabitants of the area.

The fire broke out in the late evening of Sunday 24 March and involved an isolated area of the Tmb (Mechanical-Biological Treatment) plant, of about 2 thousand square meters, where about 400 tons of waste would have ended up at the stake.

In the next few hours, the Fire Brigade will continue with the dismantling and cooling of the waste affected by the fire, while it remains to be assessed whether the site will remain open (for the moment vehicles unload at the Malagrotta plants) and what the consequences will be on the collection of waste in the capital, which is already in extreme pain.
