The Netherlands have the opportunity to make the most of the energy produced by the wind and now all here passenger trains are powered thanks toAeolian.

The milestone was reached early. Indeed, one year ahead of schedule, the Dutch railway company NS has announced that the entire range of passenger trains travels thanks to the100% wind energy from 1 January 2017.

This is how a new era for green transport and ecological mobility is inaugurated. Proponents of renewable energy hope the initial success will inspire designers to incorporate wind-powered trains into other high-speed rail projects around the world.

For example, the United States is among the first to be interested in the revolution trains powered by wind energy.

At the end of 2015, the Dutch government had announced the goal of powering the country's electric trains thanks to renewables by 2018. The commitment was so great that the milestone was reached a year earlier.

NS, the largest railway company in the Netherlands, partnered with energy company Eneco in 2015 to channel renewable energy towards its own fleet of electric trains which transport 600 people every day.

NS electric trains use around 1,2 billion kWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to the energy used by all private homes in the city of Amsterdam.

Switching to renewables for the transport sector may further decrease thecarbon footprint of the nation as it has already been happening for some years thanks to investments in renewable energy projects.

The electricity used to power Dutch trains comes from wind farms in the Netherlands, Belgium and Finland, many of which have recently been built. Some wind farms have opened earlier than expected and so here is the chance to anticipate the green and renewable revolution for trains in the Netherlands.

A more sustainable future also depends on renewables and green transport systems.
