Waste: Conai and Cnr together to better recycle plastic and packaging

Conai and Cnr together to improve waste recycling. How to solve the problem of waste accumulation? First of all, by recycling everything we can to the best of our ability. Hence the birth of an agreement between Conai and Cnr to give life to new research projects dedicated to the recycling of plastic and packaging. How to solve the problem of the accumulation of waste? First of all, by recycling everything we can to the best of our ability. Here then is the birth of a agreement between Conai and Cnr to give life to new research projects dedicated to plastic recycling and to the packaging. Conai and Cnr talk about new materials and new processes to significantly reduce the amount of waste directed to landfills.

The CNR-Conai agreement was signed yesterday, Wednesday 5 March, and will have a duration of 3 years. Conai will undertake to make the more environmentally friendly packaging strengthening scientific and technological research activities, in collaboration with institutions and universities. The consortium has already invested 800 thousand euros for the improvements in sight in the next 2 years.

Cnr will help CONAI develop original solutions for the packaging sector. In particular, improvements in the processing and recycling processes of waste materials will be favored. The two realities want to give life, together, to new types of packaging materials, which are both biocompatible and have a longer life cycle. We therefore expect packaging materials with a lower environmental impact. Attention focuses on 2 projects.

    1) Il first project it concerns heterogeneous and multi-material post-consumer waste, including cardboard e plastic-aluminum polylaminates. The waste will be used to create new completely recycled materials.

    2) Il second project involves the mixed plastics and the evaluation of the decay of their properties as a consequence of their repeated use and recycling. The final goal is to develop a mechanical recycling process for mixed plastic mixtures, which makes it possible to energy recovery.

Finally, Conai will undertake to improve the recycling processes of plastic, glass and steel in collaboration with other companies, such as Experimental Glass Station and the Department of Industrial Engineering of theUniversity of Salerno.
