The work has been in the collection of the Connecticut museum since 1957. It has been examined with modern and digital techniques that have revealed its authenticity, which had been questioned in 1990 by the art historian and Van Gogh expert. Walter Feilchenfeldt.

The scholar had raised concerns about many alleged Van Goghs around the world, including the "vase with poppies ". So for almost 30 years the masterpiece remained hidden in a warehouse.

Many years later, thanks to advances in technology and Van Gogh's knowledge, the museum decided to revisit the question. And ... surprise!

These beautiful poppies have been officially attributed to Van Gogh

After having analyzed the painting, the materials and the style, it was possible to conclude that it is actually a painting by Van Gogh.

The work of art, in fact, fits stylistically with other floral paintings made shortly after its arrival in Paris.

"Vase with poppies" will be back on display as early as April 26.

The hidden portrait

The canvas hides an image hidden under the still life.

If you rotate 180 degrees, in fact you can see the portrait of a man in profile.
