A small group of Irish ladies have reproduced the entire village they live in by knitting with crochet.
The village of Cloughmills in County Antrim, Northern Ireland has a small replica of it on display in the town hall. The particularity? It is made of wool, crocheted by the women of the country
Houses and shops, people and animals, plus garden plants and a bunch of other accessories. If you are passionate about crochet this initiative will make you crazy: a group of sprightly and grizzled ladies of Ireland have reproduced the entire village in which they live knitting wool.
They don't come out of nowhere ... Le 30 elderly maidens they are part of a real club, the Cloughmills Crochet Club, which is dedicated to this extraordinary pastime for the elderly.
And so it was that the crochet club embarked on a project of recreating the entire village of Cloughmills, County Antrim, in miniature and all knitted with wool. It took 7 months and today the model is a sparkling reproduction of the picturesque town.
Before starting the work, in fact, the ladies photographed the different buildings in the city and then began to "build" the houses first with cereal boxes and then with crochet.
They even created some sites that no longer exist, including the old shirt factory where many of the club members once worked.
“When you're retired you miss your job and that's better than your job,” confesses club member Kathleen Taggart softly. And how can you blame her if it is established that manual work soothes and makes bad thoughts disappear?
