The digital restoration of the Mona Lisa reveals that it originally had much more vibrant and brighter colors than today.

In fact, in Leonardo Da Vinci's painting there were no dark shades but bright and lively colors. They would have darkened over time due to dust and dirt, but also various restorations and protective varnishes.
To find out was the Lumiere Technology company that carried out a digital cleaning of the work with a multi-spectrum camera. Which highlighted, among other things, the presence of overlapping levels, demonstrating that Leonardo would have made several changes.
The finger of the hand, for example, was moved later, and the eyebrows were removed by the artist, unless they later disappeared due to the paints.
Despite the incredible discovery, it is not possible to restore the painting because it would risk compromising it, as specified by the French expert Jacques Frank, who in this regard stated:
“Attempting to remove the paint from Mona Lisa would risk irreparably damaging the drawing itself, with the risk of losing its famous smile, the paint merged with the pigments from the very beginning”.
We will continue to admire it as it is but with a new awareness.
