Arezzo, Poppi: the imposing medieval castle of the Conti Guidi family has received a new night lighting that will enhance the architecture of the manor, making it visible even in the darkest nights. It is one of the most visited places in the Casentino valley

In the valleys of eastern Tuscany there is a place of interest that attracts thousands of tourists and curious visitors passionate about the Middle Ages to the Casentino who travel to the province of Arezzo to visit a perfectly preserved fortress: the Poppi Castle.
The medieval manor was in fact built towards the end of the 1310th century and renovated until the beginning of the XNUMXth century by the noble family of the Conti Guidi who around XNUMX offered to host Dante. Here the illustrious Florentine spent a year there during his long exile.
Within these walls it is said that the great poet composed the XXXIII Canto of Hell.
The Castle of Poppi is an authentic stage of Tuscany in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries since, apart from the work on the main tower which reduced its height to 50 meters following the impact of lightning, it almost totally retains the original appearance of the past. And as such in the night it disappears among the hills if not for some lighthouses.
However, to enhance the entire stronghold and as much as possible, without upsetting its state of conservation or even modernizing it, the Municipality of Poppi has stipulated an agreement with the company Ceg Elettronica SpA for theexternal lighting of the castle, of the tower, of the walls along the moat and of the bell on the tower.
The new lighting is LED and replaces the previous headlights to ensure both greater energy efficiency and a reduction in energy consumption of around 60-65%, as well as costs for routine maintenance.

And so, as during the day, even at night the Poppi Castle will shine from now on in all its beauty and magnificence. The new lighting system was inaugurated during the traditional Fair of San Torello, the patron protector of Poppi, which occurs on 24 April.
