This time, apparently, we really are, the Grand Egyptian Museum (Gem) located near the Pyramids of Giza, is about to open to the public, after numerous delays. It will happen in April 2020 when its huge space will become open to visitors.

This is the largest archaeological museum in the world, designed by the Dublin-based architectural firm Heneghan Pengun, a true paradise for fans of Egypt, where thousands of pieces never shown before will be exhibited, including the treasure of pharaoh Tutankhamun.

We were saying, a long-awaited opening given that it has been talked about for years now, postponing it each time to better times. First in 2012, then 2015, and again 2018, but nothing to do, at least so far, 2020 could be the right year.

The Museum will host in its exhibition spaces over 50.000 antiques from prehistoric times to the Greek era, it will also have laboratories, research centers, conference rooms, classrooms, auditoriums, storage areas and warehouses, plus a museum for children, a cinema, a bazaar and various shops. Not to mention the rest areas with restaurants and cafes.

The structure of the building is geometric with a pyramidal tendency, as it is surrounded by Pyramids, and includes a huge staircase of 25 meters in height where large antiques will be installed. A decorative but also functional staircase, since it will be used to access the various areas distributed over several levels.

But of all, the most spectacular attraction will be the treasure of pharaoh Tutankhamun with a total of five thousand pieces, which were discovered in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. There will also be the statue of King Ramses II, which will remain in the hall, and the statues of King Thutmose III and Amenophis III.

Equally interesting is the setting that the Museum will have, where the finds will not simply be exhibited, but the visitor can immerse himself in the world of the pharaohs, discovering what they ate, how they dressed, what they did.

We hope that they will not postpone yet and that the opening scheduled for April 2020 is definitive!
