It is called the garbage men's district because here, the alleys and roofs of the buildings are overflowing with waste. Numerous buildings give life to what is now known as the Garbage city, a suburb with a Coptic majority located in Cairo in Egypt.

The neighborhood of the garbage men because here, alleys and roofs of buildings are full of waste. Numerous buildings give life to what is now known as the Garbage city, a suburb with a Coptic majority located at Cairo in Egypt.

The whole peripheral landscape is devastated bygarbage: the balconies of the houses, the alleys, the main road, a truly desolate scenario, made even more sad by theferocious urbanization and from adobe buildings.

The new project gives a glimmer of hope and a touch of color “Perception”, the street artist El Seed who with his murals paints the buildings of the rubbish city in white, orange and blue.

This place is perceived as a dirty, marginalized and segregated environment. The goal of my project is to question society's judgment of the city, writes the Street artist on his Facebook page.

To make his mural, which can only be viewed from the top of the montagna Mokattam, the Franco-Tunisian artist painted fifty buildings.

The Zaraeeb community welcomed me and my team as if we were family. It was one of the most amazing human experiences I've ever had. They are generous, honest and strong people. They have been given the name of Zabaleen, meaning garbage people, but I don't think it's right to define them that way. After all, they are simply those who clean up the city of Cairo, continues El Seed on Fb.

Informally, the Zabaleen community has developed one of the most efficient recycling systems, managing to collect 9 thousand tons of waste a day, equal to almost two thirds of the garbage thrown away by the inhabitants of Cairo.

Despite the efforts, however, the community often comes discriminated against, today perhaps thanks also to the street art of El Seed and its murals, in the trash city we don't just talk about waste.
