For some time many artists have used recycled wood, among many we remember Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and still in the twentieth century Michelangelo Pistoletto and some English sculptors who found the materials for their installations in the landfill.

Among the most important is certainly that of Tadashi Kawamata designed last summer specifically for the cloister of the church of Santa Caterina al Formiello in Naples.

Is called “The Shower” and is made up of three thousand boxes of fruit recovered from the market thanks to the help of the Neapolitans right at the gates of the city, where the exchange of goods took place. Once used, the boxes containing the fruit and vegetables are thrown away, therefore they are a useful but very precarious type of material, which is why even the artist's installation was only temporary.

To create the work, Kawamata asked the neighborhood kids for help because according to the artist it is important to interact with others to find harmony which is needed to create something that thrills. In his installations the theme of nature linked to children's imagery often recurs.

There are nests, huts, tree houses and they all have in common the fact that they are temporary works that blend with the surrounding environment, changing the scenery only for a limited period, in short, a new way of understanding art, which can be enjoyed inside.
