The gray walls of cities take on color in the village of Huija, in Taiwan. Here each house stands out from the neighboring ones thanks to the different murals depicting cartoons. A "fashion" that has recently broken out but has already paid off: Huija has seen a rise in property prices and the arrival of coaches of tourists since the neighborhood has redone its look over the last year .

Thanks to three sisters who brought life and color to the streets of the small village. The sisters went on vacation to their grandmother to visit her about a year ago. Having nothing to do, they decided to paint the exterior of her house with cartoon characters, including her Daruma dolls, a lucky charm in Japan.

On one of the windows they painted a sign that reads: "This is where grandma lives."

Soon, the other villagers of the community began to imitate them, fascinated by the cheerfulness brought by the girls. Each of them painted their own walls. Within some time, the entire village was filled with colorful murals. And new illustrations appear every day. Walking the streets, often, you will notice the same artists and villagers intent on working on their paintings.

"Children paint, some art schools have offered to donate their services, or people even hire professionals to paint the white walls", explains Ms. Liao who lives in Huija. "And now we have a lot of tourists, mostly from Hong Kong and China."

Many homeowners have posted notices inviting tourists to post their photos of the murals on Facebook.

Tourists' cars are banned from Hujia, a parking lot has been created outside the village to leave cars and visit the small town on foot. It takes about two hours to admire all the works on the walls of the houses. Two hours to look around and admire the way in which the bare elevations have taken on life and color.
