The colors and the street Article invade Pachuca, a city of 275 thousand inhabitants in south-central Mexico. In an unprecedented effort, the artist team of Germanic Crew and the government have joined forces to rehabilitate and beautify an entire neighborhood of the city, now devoured by decay and violence.

To create these spectacular works were the boys of Germanic Crew, a youth organization with over 13 years of experience in alternative forms of communication such as graffiti and murals.

The city, capital of the state of Hidalgo, acquired a new identity thanks to street art. The project encompasses 20 thousand square meters of painted surfaces on 209 case. 452 families benefited from it, for a total of 1808 people.

In addition to beautifying the neighborhood, the project was a tool for social transformation given that the young inhabitants of this difficult neighborhood, characterized by violence, were involved during the works.

But thanks to the creation of several jobs for the construction and maintenance of the work, violence among young people has been completely eradicated. And today the neighborhood is looking for its tourist vocation.

“The work of re- functionalization of spaces public, the promotion of a new form of murals that will contribute to the regeneration of our social fabric with the reinterpretation of the identity of the current citizen, strengthens our history and cultural practices. We want Mexico to become the best producer of mural art in the world, ”explains the team.

Not just colors and joy. What German Crew wants creating is something deeper: a sense of belonging that leads to the creation of a new cultural heritage and tourist attraction with dynamics ranging from graffiti to mural painting to documentaries, passing through the recovery and writing of current history, through strategies of participation and integration of young.

    The glance is effective.
