Sphen is magic: the sweet couple of 'gay' penguins. They are the best parents

In Australia, a couple of gay penguins stood out for the particular kindness with which they took care of an egg until the moment it hatched. The caring adoptive parents managed to give birth and raise little Sphengic who is now 3 months old.

Comes from the Sydney Sea Life aquarium (we generally don't like zoos and aquariums but sometimes something good happens there too) a very sweet love story that overcomes races and sexual prejudices. The protagonists are Sphen and Magic, two male penguins who have been entrusted with an egg abandoned by a traditional pair of penguins made up of a male and a female. This is not too unusual, in fact we remember that usually the female penguin lays two eggs but generally only one survives because the parents concentrate their care exclusively on it.

The two foster fathers, on the other hand, were diligent and careful to properly heat the egg and built a larger nest specifically for him so that they could hatch it comfortably and for as long as necessary.

Before testing them on a real egg, however, the aquarium owners had given the male pair a fake egg to see their reaction. Sphen and Magic, also on that occasion, showed themselves to be two really loving parents and for this reason, as soon as a real situation arose, they were given a real egg in foster care.

When the egg arrived, Sphen and Magic took turns in the brood for 28 days until it finally hatched in October.

But we get to know the two unusual parents better. Magic and Sphen have very different ages and characters, yet between them it was love at first sight. Magic is 3 years old and was born in the aquarium, he is a very playful penguin, Sphen instead is more mature, he is 6 years old, he is taller and calmer than his partner.

Since they met, they began the whole courtship ritual until they became a full-fledged couple: first they bowed to each other, then they brought stones to each other to build the nest and finally they sang together.

Usually this process is long and involves several penguins until the "soul mate" is found, in the case of Magic and Sphen it wasn't like that, it was in fact love at first sight!

And as far as parenthood is concerned, the keepers of the aquarium have called them "the most caring penguins in the whole colony". In fact, their instincts never made them wrong: once the egg had hatched, the two penguins started singing before the baby came out (it can take a few days) in order to communicate and show her their presence.

In the end they were rewarded with the birth of Shengic (provisional name which is nothing more than a crasis of the names of the two dads), a female who weighed 91 grams, kept warm and fed and who is learning to swim today.
