The restrictive measures imposed by the coronavirus epidemic have forced the suspension of 90 bullfights across Europe in just two months
The restrictive measures imposed by the coronavirus epidemic have forced the suspension of 90 bullfights across Europe, in a period of time that goes from just 9 March to 10 May.
In particular, there are 73 bullfights in Spain, 13 in France and 4 in Portugal. All these "celebrations", announced or planned, will not be able to take place in this period of time, reaching the impressive figure of 90 bullfights. A number destined to increase with the prolongation of the pandemic and the emergency.
To these will be added, in fact, also all those that should have taken place during the rest of May and that of June, on the suspension of which there is still no official communication. Among them, those of the most important fair in Spain, San Isidro, patron saint of Madrid, which has 30 celebrations. We will soon reach, and far exceed, the 100 mark.
Coronavirus stops bullfights: 120 bulls are already saved in Spain
In fact, the bullfights in Nimes (France), for which the famous bullfighter José Tomás was hired, were also postponed to September. Ditto also for the cities of Cordoba, Jerez de la Frontera and Alicante. And this is just to mention the most "famous" festivals.
Now there is one thing we can rejoice about in this great chaos called coronavirus: the suspension of bullfights and the saving of hundreds of lives of the bulls that would have been killed.
Waiting for them to be abolished forever all over the world ...
