They found the fence door open and just walked out after years and years of being locked around. Maybe just the desire to savor a bit of freedom, but for two chimps from the Amersfoort zoo in the Netherlands, it all turned into a tragedy: they were shot and killed in front of the visitors' eyes.

A human error in closing the fences. No one could have imagined that it would go that far, that is, to kill the two animals. After a life in a cage and forced to be a tourist attraction between laughter, flashes and above all far from well-being, the chimpanzees died with bullets in the body.

Update: The situation is under control and it is safe. We are investigating what exactly happened, which is why our park is closed for the rest of the day. We will come with a message later today.

"The two male chimpanzees exhibited behavior that could have created a dangerous situation and that is why at that moment, the decision to shoot was made," the zoo justified.

In fact, therefore, they were killed because they could possibly endanger someone, they fired in a preventive manner. So much is the life of an animal worth? Why is this the question to ask.

ice cream! † Our chimpanzees were surprised with an ice cold treat. For these animals this is a way to cool down, but of course also a lot of fun to play with! pic.twitter.com/nRFCtdEiar

Wild animals are not tame, they do not respond to our commands, but to their instincts. According to the zoo, however, there was no time to shoot anesthetics, yet the visitors were already safe, who could they harm? We will never have an answer, what is certain is that Mike and Karibuna are no longer there.
