Transforming plastic that pollutes the oceans into bottles. In the immense blue of our seas floats the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, also known as the Pacific Trash Vortex, a giant mass of plastic debris twice the size of the United States. Compared to its unimaginable enormity, a plastic soap bottle may not seem like much, but it can already be a good start.

Method, a leading company in the production of personal care products, has announced the creation of a new bottle in HPDE (high density polyethylene) which it uses for 10% plastic waste ended up in the large islands of ocean garbage. What then contains the soap with marine mineral salts, it does not matter. All the innovation lies in the gray packaging, made entirely of recycled plastic, with a shape conceived by the designers to freely imitate a sea urchin.

To make it happen, the employees and volunteers of Sustainable Coastlines and the Kokua Hawaii Foundation they scoured the coasts of Hawaii, a note explains, collecting more than 3.000 kilos of stranded plastic, including a still-inflated basketball from Japan and a bottle of Korean Coca-Cola. But transforming the collected material into a bottle was not easy, given that some waste appeared deteriorated by the long stay in the water.

Method was able to overcome this challenge by resorting to the collaboration of Envision Plastic, a leading company in America for the recovery, recycling and reuse of plastic material. This is the contribution, albeit small, of a successful company that has chosen to focus on the values of sustainability and hopes to contribute to promoting the reduction of plastic consumption.
