Rosa and Matilda: the book that teaches children to respect and love animals, starting with… a chicken

Educationalist Monia Monti saved a chicken destined for slaughter. Thus was born a book that teaches respect for animals

A farm chicken that fell from a truck that was transporting it to the slaughterhouse was rescued by Monia Monti, an educator and expert in meditation and mindfulness. From this beautiful story was born a book entitled “Rosa and Matilda. Happiness is built together ".

Part of the splendid work that Dr. Monti does with meditation is aimed at raising awareness, both adults and children, of respecting and enhancing the environment and all forms of life (animal, plant, mineral).

A way to underline also how we are linked by circular and recursive relationships with everything that surrounds us and how the perpetrating actions of mistreatment or exploitation against the environment and animals has important consequences also for the quality of our life.

Taking a cue from these issues and having rescued a farm chicken that fell from the truck that was taking it to its death, “Rosa and Matilda was born. Happiness is built together ”, published by Eifis Editore.

As you can see from the photos, today Rosa (this is the name of the chicken and later you will understand why) is fine. Thanks to Monia's loving care, she has found a welcoming home and new friends as well.

We asked Monia to tell us something about the book:

“In the book it is the chicken who, with ironic and sometimes mocking tones of the human being who believes himself superior to everyone and everything, tells his story. From living conditions on the farm to runaway, to meeting me. From discovering the pleasure of walking on a beautiful lawn to enjoying the sense of freedom. From being cleaned up, to being cared for for its excessive fatness, from having been mistaken for a hen, hence the name Rosa, to meet other animals in his new home, etc. "

The book consists of two parts: a first in which it is the chicken that tells its story and a second, aimed at personal development, in which, taking up some ideas from the first part, issues relating to respect for animals and environment, being compassionate and kind, the importance of training positive thoughts, cultivating healthy relationships, paying attention to the quality of the foods we eat, etc.

What is the message you want to send thanks to this book?

“The underlying theme and the pedagogical message that I intended to convey is LOVE and RESPECT for animals and for life in its many shades. Regardless of being covered with skin, feathers, fur, scales or a shell, inside each being a heart beats strongly, emotions move: joy, happiness, pain, sadness. Because of this every creature deserves to be respected".

The book is designed for children, teenagers and adults and to be used in educational, school and family contexts. Two important contributions in the book: Dr. Gianluca Felicetti, President of LAV and Professor Alessandra Farneti, full professor of developmental psychology at the University of Bolzano.

If you are interested in knowing more about the book and asking a few questions directly to Dr. Monti, you can participate next Tuesday, February 2, at 20.30 pm in the presentation of the book live on the Facebook page MoniaMontiPedagogista and on instagram.
